The idea for the Del Rancho Steak Sandwich Supreme started at 4 o’clock one morning in 1961. Mr. Holt had heard that to be successful in the restaurant business you needed at least one unique item on your menu, which only your restaurant offered.

The idea came when Mr. Holt woke up with a dream of a variant from a hamburger. It would be a sandwich, a Steak Sandwich. A sandwich like no one else had ever seen. That morning began a long experimental process that lasted three years. Finally, in 1964 it was finished, and J.R. Holt introduced his masterpiece.
