"Business began in 1979 by Virgil Jurgensmeyer and Darrell McClain. Later, in 1983, Virgil bought McClain's share and since then, it has been family owned and operated by he and his three sons, Curtis, Terry and Pat. Currently, the operation has expanded to include five satellite growing operations and employees approximately 600 employees all together. Products grown include various sizes of white mushrooms as well as brown (crimini and portabella), whole, sliced and in a variety of other forms and packaging possibilities. Currently, J-M Farms grows approximately 28 million pounds of mushrooms per year! Their customer base includes primarily wholesale food distributors which span much of the United States. J-M Farms operates as a community-minded business who firmly believes that their success throughout the years is largely contributable to the employees who make it possible to carry out the necessary day-to-day operations enabling them to grow a premium product.
